Love my porage for breakfast ... and usually buy Scott's Porage Oats ..
on the box it proudly proclaims..

Old Fashioned, Thick Scottish-Milled Oats
The True Taste of Scotland..

always thought that they were a Scottish company .. but on reading the box today, they are in fact are an English company named A & R Scott .. hence 'Scott's' Porage Oats..

And here's me thinking they were Scottish.. never mind.. as we say.. they are braw oats..

but not made in Scotland.. :(

They're the only oats we buy, can's stand the fine stuff that cooks up as mush.

Edit: I'm slow this morning but just had a thought, I was looking into this a year or two ago when I couldn't find the thick milled Scott's. I seem to remember Scott's and Quaker are the same firm.

Yes, Quaker and Scott's are both owned by PepsiCo.

We like our porridge made from Jumbo Oats, and with maple syrup on it, which is possibly heresy, but it's delicious all the same.

indeed.. Scott's Porage was founded by A&R Scott in 1880, and to this day our Oat's are still milled in Cupar, Scotland.Broken Link Removed

A & R Scott, two brothers, started making Scott's Midlothian Oat Flour in 1880, in the Kingston Dock area of Glasgow. Little appears to be known of the brothers, the business being run from an early date by partners Robert Lauder, who looked after the technical aspects, and William Allen, who controlled the finances.

my confidence has been restored.. :)

I have mine with blueberries and a squirt of honey, quite like sliced banana as well. If it's made with salt I enjoy but it's just not the way I make at home.

Always use Hamlyns - milled just up the road from us at Boyndie near Banff, their head office is also there. They support our local community so we try to support them. Oh and their oats are superb!!!
