We just returned yesterday from holiday and had to endure a nightmare(to us) flight home with kids screaming, crying, making a hell of a racket, much to a lot of people's annoyance, I was thinking that I would pay a premium to be able to book an adult only flight, anyone else feels the same, But I doubt it will ever happen.

Rarely fly, it's all of 13 years since I flew on a business trip to Scotland.. and prior to that Glasgow to Aberdeen to go offshore.. no kids on these flights ..

Never flown on a package holiday .. and don't intent to either.. if I had to fly it would need to be in business class... so that won't be any time soon..

I'm afraid it is the parents to blame.. it's a 'modern' phenomena.. you get the same ill tempered kids running around supermarkets, camp sites, play grounds, in school, with mums and dads not giving a stuff what they do..

I'm an old git who raised six .. and never would have allowed such behavior.. but then again, I didn't stuff em full of additives and fast food..

rant almost over.. :D

So you don't have kids, and you have never been a kid yourself.?

Not excusing poor behaviour but you can't live in a glass jar

How about people reclining chairs into you, coughing, farting, etc etc

Put your hand in your pocket and go first class, or better charter a plane, simples

Unfortunately you pay cheap, you get cheap with the great unwashed

A g&t helps, as does headphones

Travelling on the occasional bus and train, sitting in eye clinic recently it always seems the same thing. Parents don't take anything to occupy their child. I can remember carrying crayons, scribble paper, few little cars, small books. All had to go in a shoulder bag as I didn't drive when mine were tiny. Saw a mum on a bus hand her child her mobile phone to play with. The child was barely more than a year old.

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
I would. Badly behaved bored kids , On airplanes are as bad as yappy spoilt dogs In motorhomes.
We always managed to keep our three occupied , taking plenty things for them to do . Albeit the longest they flew was 4 hours , but they have always behaved from an early age. The first time Jacob flew was 8 months . I was still Breast feeding him so that was easy.
As for the twins , we took them when they were 16 month old and Jacob was 3. We had payed extra for more leg room and to All sit together, at the bulk head.
Once on the plane we were told we couldn't because of Exits seats and spare oxygen masks. Ralph ended up four rows back with Jacob whilst I had the twins and a spare seat. They were very good ( twins) I was annoyed with the airline. Though I could obviously see their point. But it took ages to get the cash back , that we'd paid extra. I couldn't understand why we'd been allowed to book extra legroom , seats etc.
The man who sat next to me, getting Our free extra leg room , as he swapped with Ralph, refused to let me have the elbow rest and spent the flight glaring at me whilst I was occupying the twins. Whilst his huge Fat bulk bled into my space anyway. I should have just left them to carry on and climb all over him like ive seen lots of parents do !
They never cried , paddied etc. I sat next to him having the spare window seat to sit them on and a blanket on the floor when they were asleep. We decided we'd wait a coupl of years before we went again as it was a stressful flight. But only because I didn't want our children to spoil the flight. Several passengers complimented me , when we landed.
We've never let our kids kick seats , or reach through gaps in front etc.
Don't think you gt child free in club class either.
Sometimes the Tristans of the world can be even more obnoxious than the Kyles. As are the parents.

It's one of very many reasons we no longer fly. That Icelandic volcano changed our holiday plans back in 2010 and led us to buying our first van. With the exception of a wedding we had to attend in Italy that is it for us. Gave our luggage away to the kids.

I love kids and to see them enjoying themselves if its out on site or any other open space ,but i have to say that as an acute tinnitus sufferer i would find it unbearable in an enclosed space.but its like one of the posters has said that it has to be down to the parents;)

Although kids get the bad name on flights with crying etc in fact it's often the adults that are more objectionable! Last week flying back to the UK I had a guy sitting behind me that constantly kicked my seat, spoke loudly and in general was worse than any kid. When the trolley came around he was very demanding with no please or thanks initially. However the cabin crew had him sussed and when handing him his multiple drinks just said "please and thanks"! He was like a small boy then being reprimanded and realised if he upset them they probably wouldn't sell him anymore booze.

I have also had the person sitting in the seat in front reclining back their seat so far I couldn't move.

I have 50 hours of flying booked for this year so far, kids have never been a problem to me on planes and generally I love having kids around but I must say I sometimes prefer adult only hotels.:)

Clearly evident here, most Funsters mix with those that (think) they're young ;)

I/we hate other peoples noise and annoyance kids or whatever, we never let our kids play up when we were out so why cant other people do the same, if we all let our children do whatever can you imagine what life would be like - yea alot worse than now, so anyone who thinks its ok to let children make a racket/running around screaming in a public place is maybe one of the parents who lets their children do the same - it all comes down to one thing = RESPECT = GET SOME !

On and off for many years.
Travelling on transport where I don't have to drive or navigate is a chance to interact 100% with child or grandchild and how often do we get that chance? My children only cried (when they were small) when there was something wrong or they weren't happy. As a parent it was my job to ensure the comfort of my children and the people round me.

Having said that last time we flew we did get an upgrade and it was fantastic........ wouldn't pay full price for an upgrade (too Scots / Welsh for that) but when offered an upgrade for free or reasonable price I would take it everytime :)

Respect, as they say is earned, beating or scaring kids into "respecting" their elders died with the Victorians, thankfully. But the parent taking responsibility for their off-spring by occupying them instead of ignoring them - deserves respect.

Never had any problems with our girls, 'caus we brought em up proper.

I also dislike other peoples noise, I put my noise cancelling headphones on & turn up the heavy metal.

There is an easy solution the OP said he was prepared to pay more for a Adult only flight, travel Business or 1st Class usually solves the problem, even Premium/World Traveler Plus you get very few kids.

I tend to think little of the misbehaved children which is not just on flights, it is everywhere in general, but on the bright side their parents have to live with their offspring's 24/7 and reap the rewards of bad parenting. I only have to put up with it for minutes .lol. Bearing in mind my children were perfect:whistle: .lol

Flying from the UK is where you're going wrong injebrek.

We were lucky enough to grab a week or so away, totally by ourselves for 4 years on the trot (don't worry we holidayed locally with the kids too!). Grandparents all live in the Netherlands, so it involved our eldest 2 flying by escort to Rotterdam and us driving to Friesland with our youngest 3. Flew back to UK to do a typical 'package' holiday, but went premium. Nice enough flight, but even this section had lots of children. Found a similar holiday for less the following year flying direct to Mexico from Amsterdam. Interesting observation was that premium class was essentially adult only. Plenty of families in economy. Only downside was the stop-off in Cuba which was a pain, so Year 3 we pushed the boat out a bit and went business class with BA from UK again. Not an unpleasant flight, but there were quite a few children again. Fast forward to last year and for our 10th anniversary we booked an Emirates economy flight from Amsterdam to Dubai, joined their skywards rewards scheme (bottom rung, haha) and got bumped to business on the way out and was offered business on the way back for approximately 1/4 price. No kids - nice service!

We don't fly with our children (and I have run it past HWMBO a few times) cos it's really, really expensive for a family of our size, plus I'd hate it if they didn't behave. God knows even I'm fed up of transatlantic flying. It's pretty tedious, even for the most chilled child. My lot enjoy simple things like sand, ice-cream and water, which can all be found in abundant supply within driving distance. The likes of Cancun and Doobers would be utterly wasted on them.

To avoid kids on flights with any certainty you'd need to either increase your outlay to 'have yacht' proportions in the UK, i.e. first class, or go from a country where the population believe in value for money and that kids are not entitled to the exactly the same privileges as your average adult. :)
