Our first trip in our new van was to Castleton in January, and in snow as well. Great place, even out of season, few shops, nice pubs and walks. We will return in warmer times and get up in the hills

Ahh my fave place for a ride out on the m/bike - Castleton, i love the place, in fact so many many really nice places to visit in the peaks, am thinking of going over to Dovedale the weekend and doing the hike along the river via the stepping stones an have a brew at the end in the little shop ;)

We did that very same walk last year, mind it was with about 100 miniature schnauzers & we're doing it again this year.

Phil J when you come out of worksworth turn right and head towards Belper, you will cross over a small bridge with a great cafe on the corner, well worth a stop, if you carry on that road towards Belper about 2 miles after the bridge there is a pub called the Hurts Arms , it's a fantastic pub and they allow motor homes to stay in there car park if you stay for a meal and the food is FANTASTIC

Love your pics and the place - we did the same walk in December when we stayed at the Castleton cc site.

Can one stay there if not a CC member?

Since 2012 but longer in my dreams
Great pictures ,I can remember going to Matlock as a kid to the mining museum and crawling about in tunnels.
Looks like you were taking a leak in the last picture !

Hi - I've just checked in our club book, unfortunately this is a member only site.

It is a lovely site in a great location (there's some similar pics in my media files too).

Great walks direct from the site.

Thank you for that. I need to look into if we should join the CC. We would like to use that site as its in a great location, I know there is the big Hope one and there is a small one behind the pub further down. It's just having a 2 year old it's nice to find sites within walking distance of things.

Yes, this was one of the reasons why we started using it years ago, albeit with the caravan when the kids were small. It's just a 10 minute walk into Castleton.
