Just doing a bit of kite flying with a regard to swapping our Rapido that we have lived in for three years. For reasons of access to our private English aire I would really like a rear wheel drive instead of the flipping Fiat front wheel drive and I think if we had an automatic Lynda may consider driving it.

So far on my wish list is an Esterel on a Merc chassis and a Carthago with twin wheel Iveco chassis
Has anyone any experience of either of the above vans

Purchased a Carthago a couple of months ago but it's on the boring Fiat chassis. The van is so far living up to all expectations apart from the supplying dealer who is a run of the mill ex car sales tarmac guy. When are some dealers going to change there attitude to customers and realise we are future buyers.
The only difference in the vans is your requirement for rear wheel drive. The engines are mainly the same in Iveco and Fiat as you will know. Good luck with your search.

This is our summer aire back in Blighty and getting a front wheel drive Fiat in and out is a nightmare and involves tow ropes and FWD so hence the need for a RWD but I hear what JJ is saying as our present Rapido has been a nightmare regarding trying to keep within the weight limits

I don't think you will find many Carthago RWD vans in the UK.

I second what Sundowner says about Niesman and Bischoff, the RWD ones are mostly on IVECO but a few Merc.

Purely on a mechanical basis, the Iveco will be less trouble and much cheaper on repairs than the Merc, most Iveco chassis will also have a diff lock a real bonus in the gooey stuff, I looked at the carthego on an Iveco i think the gross weight was around 6.5 ton impressive, I have a 6.5ton Iveco truck at work very capable and reliable truck plenty of torque for the weight no idea about cruising speed as its governed to 56mph, just my two penneth hope it helps.

Cheers Rick

A friend of ours has an RSM on an Iveco, will cruise at 70mph. I have a 6.5ton 180bhp Daily in Car Transporter form, tows a trailer up to 10ton excellent vehicle. Light loads 24mpg, fully freighted 20mpg.
