Still trucking and learning
Looking to change our motorhome so went trawling around dealers yesterday. Didn't get a new motorhome - had a huge row instead regarding full garage vs fixed bed. Hubby wants the former, I want the latter. We saw a Pilote Explorateur Diamond G742 LCE which has a rear bed on struts so it can be electronically raised to provide access to a full garage - absolutely gorgeous but it was brand new and out of our price range. Does any know which other models, from any manufacturer, have this feature and would they all be brand new or do any previous years models incorporate this?
Oh, forgot to say we (I) don't want a transverse bed.
Thanks.

Our Rapido has an island bed that can be manually raised and lowered to increase the size of the garage. There is a handle in the garage to wind it up and down. When it's fully raised my bike will fit in upright without taking the wheels off.

Thanks for the response - can you tell me the exact model please.

Since 2008 & many years tugging
Chausson have some models with electrically operated bed.
It sound nice but are they really practical, you load up the garage for a trip, stop for the night want to lower the bed but can't because the garage is full. Other option is only put enough stuff in the garage so the bed can be lowered, in that case what's the point of a full size garage.
What about an A Class with twin rear beds, you get a full size garage and a choice of twin beds or the cab drop down double bed.

On our Chausson 718 you can raise the bed to make the garage bigger, and even at full hight the bed isn't difficult to get on to. The garage is enormous then, and we still have the electric drop down bed in the lounge just in case. We love it.

I think you will widen your choice considerably by looking at single beds. We have a massive garage with singles and infill cushions that make it into a huge double.

Not quite on topic, but I have small garage with one access door on one side ( great storage ) only problem is getting to stuff at the back / end opposite the door ( the spare wheel is at that end it would be a bit of bug##r if we had a puncture when fully loaded). I see a lot of newer m/h's have a access door each side good idea if thinking of purchasing new m/h.

Globecar make a 6.4m PVC with electric raise up double above the garage...........

I find the fixed bed on our Globecar Globescout still leaves plenty of room for us anyway...... (y)

Our Chausson Welcome 35 has a rear bed which lifts on gas struts to allow standing access to the garage! It's great for accessing more beer supplies without going outside! Unfortunately it is a transverse bed.
Plus it is built on a superior Ford Transit RWD chassis!:reel:View media item 13450

our Rapido 7097f has a large garage, takes our Honda 125 scooter with ease, and a double fixed bed above.

not long enough
we went out to buy MH with an island bed, bought transverse over large garage

love our MH but transverse bed was a real mistake. but ....

at 8m long already, with not overly large lounge, to have island or transverse would need to add a metre to the length, that would be bigger than we want

But we are only on our second MH, next one will be the right one (y):D

I would recommend an Adria Matrix 680SP huge double bed and huge garage and it just happens my 2010 model will be coming up for sale in the next couple of weeks.

I dread to think where your compromise must be then :D

are you going to Chester? will compare there maybe (y)(y)

We didn't knowingly compromise on anything we wanted when we bought it. We're quite happy with the layout.

Unfortunately we're not going to Chester as we're on a rugby tour in sunny Clacton-on-Sea over Easter.

Look at Knaus A class. (700 LEG)We have 2 rear singles, which convert in seconds into an enormous King with a cushion and garage big enough for bikes and bbq,s and everything else. This was one of our "must haves", so have looked at many to get the spec

Many thanks for all your replies and advice. I must admit that I am favouring either Rapido or Pilote. Maybe we should just sell the house and buy the totally gorgeous brand new Pilote Explorateur Diamond, although the thought of paying that much VAT makes me grimace! Anyway, more research (and arguments) awaits.
