Newbie question 1 of ???????
I have read that I can get an adapter to run a 'normal' 240v tv through my 12v leisure battery circuit. Is this correct?
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated

No recommendation on make but for sensitive electronics, laptop, tv etc its preferable to use a pure sinewave version.
thats as near to the electric in your house as you can get.

Modified sinewave can damage the electronics.

A small one suitable for an LVD tv, maybe 100watts, can usually run off a cigarette lighter socket.

Bigger ones need mch heavier cable....some the thickness of battery cables.

Thanks again Pappajohn
I think I need to understand the sockets in my van first.
I have a 240v standard socket and a 5 amp(?) socket next to it that I presumed were set up for a TV (The aerial socket is next to them as well)

Does your tv have a black box in the power lead between plug and tv ?

If it does you can remove the whole 230v lead and buy a suitable 12v lead to connect directly to a 12v supply.

Sorry I got carried away looking round ebay (Surprise, surprise!) Yes Pappajohn it looks like the first picture. I haven't bought a TV yet but didnt want to buy one specifically for motorhomes if I can pay £100 less for a standard TV/DVD combo

We bought a 240v electric tv from Marks and Spencer. Surprise surprise it had a 12v cable with it.
Just as well as the 240v electric cable has now split so we binned that and use the 12volt all the time.
It's a 22 inch their own make. £220 2 years ago still going strong.

  1. Best bet then, as you havent bought yet, is get one with the black box in line.
the bit that plugs into the tv will have a small plug....either pins or a tubular plug.
the box is a stepdown transformer from 230v to 12v, the same thing as on a laptop, and can be removed.
buy or make a suitable lead with the correct plugs and just plug into the 12v socket.
