I am really struggling to find a new battery to fit my Hobby with the terminals in the correct position, positive on left side. If I cannot find a battery with the correct layout and I have not got enough slack in the leads would it be possible to extend the leads to fit a different battery.

Hab or main battery ?
If main battery then any good auto factor should be able to sort the battery for you.

I didn't even think about it when I bought mine but got lucky. If you need to extend wires I would expect you should replace the entire wire back to an existing join rather than trying to extend.

That is what I was dreading to hear.

So what does it say on the battery you are replacing?
Andy the battery I an trying to replace is an exide gel I think 80ah round posts plus on left L350 W175 H195, it is the height that is restricting my choice. Those dimensions I have given are absolute maximum as it is under the seat of a Ford Transit.

The battery should have a label on it with a model /code number

I doubt they make a 350 AND a 353
Top of the battery looks like it is slightly bigger than the case by 1.5mm all round (y)

This may be a stupid question but can you not just look at what's there and get the same again?

I have not got enough slack in the leads
Left to right and right to left maybe not...but is there enough slack to put the battery in back to front and place the leads over the top to reach.
The pos and neg would still be at the correct ends but on the opposite side.

Was thinking of maybe going away from Gel and getting a sealed wet battery due to cost, but I am not that tight to exclude it.(y)

IT TURNS OUT I AM A PRATT. I had looked through a gap under the seat and saw a blue wire coming off the right hand terminal and assumed that was the negative.
This morning I bit the bullet and removed the seat and the blue wire goes to an inline fuse which then connects to a red lead, so its negative on left and positive on right and there is enough spare cable to hang myself which I may do after this debacle.
The battery is an Exide G80 gel and it looks like I may be able to fit 2 in so I am on the lookout now to get leads to link 2 batteries together.
Sorry to have lead you all down the garden path.
