Hi and welcome. Perhaps your wife needs a bit more driving in the van. It would be a shame to get rid of it :)

Hello Denis Flack, welcome to Motorhone Fun (you can see why) on a more serious note if you like the van you have why not invest in a special driving course there are specialist ones for motorhomes that way you keep the van you like and your wife gets new driving confidence. :welc:Would probably work out a lot cheaper than changing as well.

:welc: The VW Auto Sleeper Clubman is a great little van, just over 5m long I think. I think you will struggle to find a van with full facilities (loo, shower etc) much smaller that that.

Welcome to Motorhome Fun. My OH did one if these courses last year organised by the Caravan Club at Sparsholt College Winchester, he thought it was very useful. :)

That's not the attitude in here, course she can, tell her there are loads of women in here, some solo, driving big vans. Get her on a course, tell her she's a whimp, do something.

Welcome... I drive a long ish van.. tell her that it becomes second nature the more she drives and you could regret selling it once that is realised in the future if she drives the new one.

Either way ... welcome both of you.

Hi and Welcome ,
My husband never let me drive any of are Motorhomes, then he was taken ill on the west coast of France, had no choice, drove a 4 1/2 ton m/H back to England, never looked back since.

Now I just get in and drive as I am now on my own,but she can take lessons on driving with Carava club, but if she cannot drive the one you have, she won,t be able to drive a smaller one, because the fear is in her head not the driving. I use to be comfortable with my husband driving, only when I had no choice did I over comemy fear,

Hi & welcome :)

Why does your wife think that she can't drive your mh? Is it a physical problem or just that she needs more practise, nothing better than going and doing it to build up her confidence(y)

Or as others have said, both clubs offer courses if she would be happier with some outside support:)

That says it all nothing to add.

Hello and welcome. I agree with other posts. Why can't your wife drive it? Give her some encouragement and take her to a quiet industrial area to practice. If my mum at 74 can drive a 22ft MH then anyone can.

Well I have to say I don't drive ours. I've only had one go but there again I have tried to drive cars abroad on various occasions before now and that terrified me too. So I become unable to do things which I easily do in a car in UK. Potty, but there you go.

OTOH all these were with my husband(s) in the passenger seat - so I think sourcing a professional course as suggested would be better both for me and your wife - after all - a 'stranger' taught me to drive a car where husband Mk I had failed and at one time thereafter I used to drive over 60,000 miles a year, so he must have done something right for my brain!

Of course she can drive it, it's just confidence and experience. I drive our RV that's 2.4 wide and 9 metres long. It was scary at first but I took it out at 8pm one night round the local industrial estate as it was quiet to get used to it and learn to reverse, etc.

If she still isn't keen to have a go the caravan club and camping and caravan club do 1 day driving courses in your own vehicle which are great.

Hi Dennis, welcome to the fun house.

Can you give us an idea of why your wife can't drive it otherwise we can't make suitable suggestions as we don't know the exact problem.
