Just wondering if any of you off site people could explain the attraction of parking regularly in this lay-by. Google street view here

It's not an attractive wild camping spot, it's not near anything much and convenient for even less, it's on a busy A road but I see a motorhome (usually the same one) parked up there at least once a week.

I just don't understand why there. There plenty of better places to park up within 5 minutes in pretty much all directions.

Maybe the rest of the week they are parking at the other places you mention.. Or they simply dont know of better places..
Maybe someone who drive that route every week and it's just convenient as a stop over..
Meet's a lady/ boy friend and they want to be out of the way..
A trucker now or in past life so feels at home in a layby..

Could be lots of reasons...

Its not a place I would even want to stop on for a brew-too close to the traffic for me -If I do stop on a lay-by I make sure it has a verge between the parking area and the road or better still use one that has been created by straightening a road out.
But that's just MY personal preference

Because they can and the TV reception is good, good views, they may well be deaf to the traffic. Maybe someone needs time away whilst the other half works nights. Who knows; and why worry about it

Maybe it is someone who is working a long way away from home, and living in their van whilst working. They could have a long drive to work or back every week and use if as a stopover for a convenient kip either going to or coming back from work. They may not know the area and just pull over at that layby for convenience.

Why not knock on the door and ask, they will probably offer you a brew...

We have a couple of locals who stay in lay-by near me they appear to be living in the van. I always think it is some poor sods who have been kicked out of the family home. They are not interested in anything but to be left alone and have a bin for their waste.

I suspect its probably someone who commutes each week as this is just a convenient stop-over - it may also be that they travel for their work and are between appointments/offices, especially considering they are not that far from a motorway.

With my kids and Uni I was thinking of gifting them a van.

Its not the cost of the caravan, it's the cost of the campsites and that's assuming you can find one that'll take students!

Here's a possible scenario:
When I drive our van from where it is stored to our house, it is about an hour and twenty minute drive. At about half distance there is a lay by similar to this, where I pull in, put the kettle on and step outside to have a crafty smoke.
Because I collect the van after work, I can often be seen in the same place on a Friday evening
Maybe they are doing the same?
