Virtually none ! :)
OK, driving home without a hitch until I went by a speed camera on a single carrieagway with a 50 limit at 49 and get flashed. I then went through one where the limit was 60 (national speed limit) at 49 and got flashed again!!

The van has a gvw of 3850 and is registered as such as a motor caravan.

SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME DVLA WILL SEE I AM A MOTOR CARAVAN AND NOT GIVE ME SIX POINTS?

:(

I wonder what triggered them, presumably you were unloaded and so not even over 3.5T, my wife had a land cruiser which tipped the scales at 4.2 T empty and that never triggered a camera

Good to see you were observing the correct speed for your weight though (y)

Good luck

Getting there!
I thought the fixed Truvello type cameras couldn't differentiate for weight. ?

If you do get a NIP then contest it.

Your speed limit is 50mph on A roads and 60mph on dual carraigeways

Motorhomes or motor caravans (more than 3.05 tonnes maximum unladen weight)
30 (48)
50 (80)
60 (96)
70 (112)

I am wondering if it is because we are PHGV tax bracket and the camera recognises this from the reg number?

But as PJ said, even if you were limited to 50mph on a single carriageway road you were not over that.

I don't know if it is the same in the UK but over here the speed limit up to 3.5 tons is different if the vehicle is 3.5 tons +. Sometimes the fixed cameras will flash because it sees a large vehicle that the camera translates as being over 3.5 ton but when the reg is checked and the powers that realise it is MH then no fine is issued.
This has happened to us several times

Was a newbie, now a Middie.
Must admit that the only weight related speed signs I have seen are in Scotland. I think.

I am sure they flashed. But after reading a truckers forum just now, it seems the cameras have an induction loop in the road which senses vehicles that arent cars and will flash above 40mph to catch the truckers.
It seems that It will get disregarded as it is processed.
Phew, fingers crossed! :)

You got flashed, presumably from behind, so it was a Gatso camera.....Truvelo dont have a visible flash, they use infra red light and are forward facing.

Gatso determine the vehicle length by the road markings and calibrate the correct speed limit for a particular vehicle.

The Gatso can differentiate between different speed limits for different vehicles. For example cars, caravans and HGV's have different speed limits and the camera will measure the vehicles length and impose the correct speed limit for each vehicle.

There are a couple of cameras like that on the A1 somewhere up towards Berwick, I have been flashed there several times as they must be set for 40mph to catch HGVs, I've never had a NIP from it. HTH

Gatso's seem to be determined by length, Been flashed a couple of times pulling long trailers at 50 mph on single carriageways and seen caravans flashed as well.

Hi.
As said above,it could have been set off by your height, coming down Barrowby hill from grantham towards notts there is a height check thingy on a pole to catch lorries going down in "Silent seventh" (Neutral),so fingers crossed it is a case of "Mistaken identity".

Cheers,

Jock.

I was flashed on a dual carraigeway in France and I was way under the speed limit. Then I noticed a grey BMW on my outside, camera just got it before I obscured him. (y)

Gatso cameras have the capability of monitoring the return signal to detect HGV and trigger at a lower speed.
