So so, I have been interested in Sourdough...

Christmas gifts, I am difficult to buy for, I don't have a need for anything and therefore this was something that was indeed different, they also used organic yeast not the mass produced stuff,,,

impressive bread making skills on here.....

we have a Panasonic bread machine which works well. but I like the Cranks style loafs
http://www.waitrose.com/shop/ProductView-10317-10001-40565-Cranks organic bread wholemeal

As yet cant find a recipe for making this kind of dense, heavy, wholemeal loaf.......any bread machine experts out there?:)

I have a Panasonic as well. The mixes come out nice, but I have yet to make one in the machine from scratch that is as good as one made by hand.

We have a Panasonic too. But hubby only likes white bread and I can't eat it due to Gluten, wheat and yeast!

ShiftZZ and ScotJimland - outstanding performance chaps. I have used a breadmaker for a few years and have recently advanced to soda bread in the Rayburn. Now, armed with Paul Hollywood's book, I intend to move on to the proper yeasted stuff. You have set a high bar to clear! (y)

I had poor results overall with my Panasonic machine. Then recently I started to mix my own stuff not buy pre-mix and I must admit the results speak for themselves inasmuch that the bread dissapears pretty much at the first sitting.

Not good in a diet situation! I too got a bread making book for Christmas, but I got socks as well from someone else

S'funny you should say that, I've noticed that every reply so far has been from a male except for Cat53 :)

Well it used to be the BBQ and drinking beer as you cooked.

Perhaps as you get older you want to make something you can enjoy a cup of tea with ?

:)

indeed.. don't do the beer anymore..

I make bread, sausages , pork pie, pickles, jam, .. I do all the cooking.. and I do mean all.. not just the main meals.

In summer it's outdoors on the barbie cooking and smoking meat ..

when the kids visit they always say they love being home again as they get proper grub..

must dash.. paella tonight :)

Over the summer, we, have made Blackberry Jam, Onion Chutney and Piccalilli, something I was not keen on, but the homemade stuff is really nice.

Last weekend, we made a Venison casserole and that was wonderful, I am using a lot more of my actifry and steam a lot more, cut down on the salt uptake and I am really keen on steamed veg..

Cut down a lot on booze (not that I was a heavy drinker), since Xmas, I have had two pints of lager, one glass of pink champers and one of wine, a small scotch and thats it,,, I am drinking a lot more water and enjoying itt.

Six Nations doesn't help! It looms, like an impeeding fail, a massive stubling block in the determination to be good! To make matters worse, we're hosting 28 people this weekend due to another rugby game.

So I guess that heathly eating and moderate drinking is out of the question this weekend as well!
