Anyone been to this event previously? Any info on where to stay either Munich or nearby towns or any useful information would be much appreciated
Many thanks

We're also heading to Munich, but for a different event in the Spring - any Stellplatz pointers or cheap camping with easy public transport info would be appreciated here too.

I'm heading to Bavaria in June - and will be doing the 2016 Oktoberfest !

I think the Bord Atlas book is the one to get. It's on my 'to order' list from vicarious books.

May I hazard a guess?
I think it might be in October and held in Munich? :))))))

Alan & Dug

It usually starts mid-September. This year 19th Sept to 4th Oct.
Next year 2016 it starts on 17th Sept.

We ve stayed on the stellplatzes at Olympic Park and the Allianz Arena ( yes Bayern Munich FC)

The arena is good as a stopover because its just off the Autobahn but the Olympic park is better to see Munich, its a better location and there are nice cyclepaths into the city. neither has much in the way of facilities though.

We are hoping to do the Octoberfest this year as my semi tame boffin is now living in Munich doing a post doc for the Max Planck institute. He tells me there is a campsite in the city that gives beer tokens in with the camping fees. As you can imagine I have encouraged his research into this venue with gusto. I will report back once my pitch is reserved.

The ticket they sold you was a "partner tagecarte" for the inner zone. Its good to see that they are selling the ticket as its not usually available on buses, but is available in the street side machines and at U-bahn and S-bahn stations. It is a group ticket and allows up to five adults to travel all day within the inner zone. You can swap one adult with two children so for the brave its valid for one adult and eight children. Not its a day ticket not a 24hour ticket, but there is a concession to use it until 6 am the following day. Also note all MVV tickets are valid on buses, trams, U-bahn and S-bahn trains. A ticket is also available to cover the whole MVV area, a good 20 mile radius from Munich, at twice price. There is also a three day ticket.

The Oktoberfest is held at the Theresienwiese, 48.132155,11.549803. From Thalkirchen just three stops on the U3 to Poccistrasse and a one block walk to the north. Look it on a map for street names.

Munich travel information is available at http://www.mvv-muenchen.de/en/ the download on the right hand side is a good place to start.

Jockaneezer - yes, I can confirm it. 20 Euros per van plus 5 Euros per person. Space for 600 motorhomes, outside the Umweltzone, 3 km (20 min walk) to the Theresienwiese, which can also be reached on public transport. .24 hour security, water supply, emptying of grey water and toilet cassettes. Showers and toilets available, but no mention of electricity.
Bookings can be made to info@ibs-security.de
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Chris. We are heading down that way in September and would like to check it out after we tried Oktoberfest in Heidelberg last year. Being outside the Umwelt zone is handy too as I don't think our '05 Renault 3 litre meets with the specification.
