We have 'sequence', a frustrating board game we bought off the internet. It was not available in shops then. A great simple game, that changes by the minute. The most frustrating game we have ever owned. Goes well with red wine.

Cribbage, is our favourite if there are two of us, when we have company, quite enjoy mahjong. Not to complicated, just a variation of rummy.

We love board games,

Our favourites are:
7 wonders
Pandemic
Ticket to ride
Carcassonne

All of these games have add ons you can buy which allow the game to grow. They are not cheap but fantastic to play.

We love cards, rummikub and scrabble as well.

We visit charity shops in different places we visit as you can pick up fantastic games for a few pounds. Then if we don't like them not much lost. :)

All the above we have either played to death (!!!! ) or have tried and aint keen.. All that is bar Sequence

That looks interesting :)

Might get a new Rummicub too as ours is pretty much worn out and no longer in the van

What a wonderful question! As a self-confessed board game geek, there are so many possible answers. ::bigsmile:

Good 'gateway' games include Ticket To Ride, Africana, Carcassonne, Ingenious. A bit more 'brain-burning' but great fun are games like Castles of Burgundy, Tikal, Settlers of Catan, London, Five Tribes (new game this year).

An easy to learn but somehow compelling card game that we play a lot is Port Royal: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/156009/port-royal

The Board Game Geek site covers just about every board or card game known to man. ::bigsmile:

On and off for many years.
Tantrix, Uno, a couple of packs of cards and hard copy of Hoyles Card Games :xThumb:

EDIT: and a full set (double 12s) of dominoes. You can also get double 9 sets which are almost as good. After playing with the full and 3/4 sets the "normal" 1/2 set of double 6s just don't cut it.

Umm.. we have actually added to Hoyles with games of our own LOL !!!
Tantrix .. Not come across that.. will take a gander

Ticket To Ride, Africana, Carcassonne, Ingenious

And another three I have not heard of.
brain games tend to be given a miss by Woman.. She can bang out the Times crossword in very short order, does word circles and the like to the point it gets boring, but avoids games that require any deep strategy .. I think this is almost certainly my fault as I tend to play any game to win, where as Mo is more interested in just playing :) I am told I take things far too seriously !

We love Rummikub too, keep a set in the Faroes and a set in the van, best with four players and can be slow with two but still a great game and any age from 4 upwards.

Tantrix is great - now one of my favourites. If you like dominoes and tri-ominoes you should like tantrix. We have added a new starting strategy though. To start everyone pulls a tile from the bag and the person wit the highest number tile goes first with that tile.

Often you can get sets on ebay. There are travel versions as well.

Our two favourites are Dominoes and Boggle, both great for adults and kids. When Sophie was young we allowed her to use two and three letter words to help her now she's 17 I won't let her play as no one like a show off :)
