I might be wrong but I don't think you will get a 2Kva suitcase generator, it would be too heavy

I would have thought just over 1000W would be the limit

Over that it would be more industrial and probably very heavy

Edit - I stand corrected, see other posts below, I am amazed at the progress in output in the 15 years since we bought ours

Yes you can get a 2kw Honda suitcase genny, not much bigger than the 1kw one, and very good they are to, love my Gennie

2Kva - very popular version of the Honda range

I've been considering one too (Honda Eu20i) . However, I'm yet to convince myself that I actually need it.

Also cannot decide if I want a secondhand Honda, or one of these http://www.screwfix.com/p/impax-imdy2500lbi-2200w-inverter-generator-230v/16100, less money and brand new...

Listen to the two of them and compare the noise - you will soon know which you prefer - run it near others and they will soon tell you too - the Honda is the quietest on the market. Depends if you are looking for it purely for emergencies or if you are looking for it more as an EHU to be able to run TV lappy etc.

I need to replace a Honda engined ''SDMO Boost 2000'' genny that got nicked in the summer, if any of you get offered one it would be great to know....It is a sort of French Blue and has a short pipe stub welded on the exhaust box...very identifiable and as it was new I have the receipt, handbook & S/N...I have heard bad reports of Kipor so will give them a miss.

If you are just using it for battery charging anything over 1 Kva would be a waste of fuel and weight. Go for a bigger one if you need it for microwaves, electric kettles etc but just for charging the 1Kva would be just as quick (and cheaper)

Before buying a generator, you need to look at your power requirements,if its just for charging batteries a 1kva and a good on board 20/30 amp charger would do the job.
as already said,if its for microwaves or kettles then bigger is better.
i use a 700watt honda generator for charging batteries through a smart 20 amp on board charger and a 2000/4000 watt peak inverter for the heavy stuff, and 2 110 amp batteries(cheap wet cells) if im wilding away from other vans(ambillkate) i use a self built 12v generator, which will fast charge at 70 amps,so needing less run time.
or you could go down the route of solar or a sterling b to b to replenish batteries.

The 2 or 2.2kv gennys are very popular for those that run air con. Myself I'd rather be hot and quiet.

My old Merc wagon had a Honda RV 3.75 KVA silent(ish) liquid cooled petrol engined genny it was a sweetheart with remote electric start etc. It would power the Coleman rooftop aircon no prob and was a god send when the temp outside was a sticky 40 plus & the kids inside were getting very teasy!...Sadly it is too heavy and expensive for Mr Smiley , hence my search for a 2nd hand suitcase Honda to run my portable aircon unit.

£1,100??!!????!
Call me a cheapskate but that's a LOT of money

Depends on how you look at it - you buy a new Honda - it has a 5 year warranty - it substantially quieter than any other genny. I have Honda engines that are 30 years old and still start 1st time with nothing but basic maintenance so really you are looking at an investment. On ebay you will find S/H Hondas for 7 to 800 so if you decide to give up you have a very good return on the original investment

Here is a Honda generator expert who repairs and reconditions them. He has second hand EU20i and EU10i models if you are interested. (EU20i at £849 in the list.)
http://www.petepower.co.uk/Used-Honda-generators.html

Blimey, just seen what he wants for the 10i (£470) I was was going to sell mine for £355 / €450, might have to re think that one.

I have bid for many on Ebay but put a max of £550 on them......several went for around the £600 plus bracket.....I actually won one for £500 and Paypal took the money, but the seller changed their mind and Paypal did a full refund eventually.....bugger!

I have an i20' hardly ever used and toyed with selling it.
But, the moment I'd sell it I would probably miss it !
Without doubt the Honda is way ahead of anything else.

Seen a few Honda 2kw silent suitcase ones on ebay.......but will have to travel a way to get them as it's collection only unless a courier would pick it up at a reasonable cost,....or maybe a meeting half way could be arranged or better still a holiday in Cornwall on offer!!
