Being a bit of a plonker I emptied the 6 Kg propane bottle and just left with a 4.5 Kg Butane bottle. Can't get anything here in Spain.

About a week ago, a pal of ours who we met up with in Xabia took his propane bottle to a petrol station and got his bottle filled up. He had some sort of filler/adaptor and the pump attendant had summat to make it all work.

The missus is flying out to meet us in Lanzarote in a week, so I'm hoping to buy something off Ebay and she can bring it over with her. She won't mind as she does need her cups of tea :)

Now this is where you lovely lot can help.

What bits do I need ?

Links to ebay ads would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

The adapter that you can fill a propane bottle with..

but you have to be careful not to overfill..

The maximum amount for an empty 6kg bottle is 12 lt.

only ever fill bottles to 80% !
only ever fill empty bottles !

Procedure.
1. Connect adapter to bottle.
2. Connect filling gun
3.Open bottle valve
4.Fill with correct amount .. ie 12lt for a 6kg bottle .. (that is 80% )
5. CLOSE bottle valve.
6. Remove filling gun.
7. Remove adapter

Use this adapter at your own risk..
overfilling is dangerous and will result in getting liquid LPG into the gas regulator and lines ... not a good idea.. if unsure don't buy

I accept no responsibility if you harm yourself or others.. !

All the garages we have been in now have the euro adaptor pumps.
Just get a Spanish gas bottle and regulator, you pick them up at rastros / boot fairs charity shops or often people on campsites, :xwink: sold my 4th yesterday since coming at the end of October. :xrofl:

Once you have a bottle you can exchange it anywhere they sell gas be it repsol or cepsa. Bob.

Something that has always puzzled me, is how can you over fill them, where does the air inside go , how can you fill them to the top,I don't do it and don't intend to as I have gasit bottles, but just always wonder when this topic comes up.

Its only propane gas left in the bottle not air so the filling pump will compress the gas until it turns to liquid. The 80% rule allows for expansion if the bottle warms up. If the bottle is completely filled with liquid there is no room for expansion and the bottle could explode. That's the way I understand it.

I dont think thats quite correct! but the liquid LPG (should be vapour only! hence 80% fill requirement!) LPG LIQUID will pass along pipe to appliances and if lit then explode!?!? thats been my understanding. + your insurance would obviously be void. A penny rich pound poorer springs to mind! buy a bottle.....
