Weather in Portugal (1 Viewer)

Just wondering what the weather has been like so far this Autumn/Winter as when i check the BBC satellite weather maps i have seen storm after storm sweeping in from the Atlantic . The forecast for the next week also looks poor , is it just a bad year or is there more sunshine than is expected .

Although not based on anything scientific, my belief is that weather tends to be variable no matter where you are.

If you are planning to visit Portugal at this time of year for the sole reason of having wall to wall sunshine with no rain or wind ever then, like many Liverpool fans, your expectations are set too high.

If, on the other hand, you want to enjoy far warmer and drier and sunnier weather than in the UK at this time of year plus experience a fascinating country full of history and lovely people then I can strongly recommend Portugal.

It is T shirt weather for me here 99% of the time.

The Algarve has considerably more rainfall than the Costa Blanca region of Spain, so if sunshine is the prime reason for a visit, which I can understand especially for short visits, then perhaps the Algarve is not the best.

For us who stay longer the sun is not the primary reason for visiting though it is always welcome and the temperatures are obviously much higher than the UK.

This is the first year we have been in the Algarve in November and since the 6th we have had 11 days with some rain so perhaps this November is wetter than usual. Max day temp 27.5 and min night temp 8.2

Edit: after carefully re formatting the copied stats they conveniently re formatted themselves in the post but I think some sense can be made of them with a little effort

It is a lot wetter here this year compared to last year but still a lot warmer than the uk,we are a little earlier this year than last year though coming here so that may be the reason.
I would still rather be here in Portugal than in the uk after spending every winter there until last year.2010 winter really put paid to the winter in the uk for us.
There are more days you can sunbathe here than the uk this time of year as shown by laneside.
Spain, especially Benidorm seems to get better weather though as reported by the reported by the funsters there.
Lots more businesses open too by the look of it when we visited in January last year.

We live about 50km from Alicante and we go to Portugal every year from December to early March because Portugal is warmer, but not always drier. Current weather today:

Well, what a hoolie last night we were at portimao Aire last night and the van was a rocking, not because of that. ... The wind was horrendous, the owners of the caravan they are doing up for a cafe turned up at 12 midnight last night, somebody perhaps called them, to see if it had blown away.
OUR front thermal covers nearly blown away so we had to bring them in, luckily we were faced into the wind but a couple of vans had to move to face into the wind it was that bad.
The rain was really heavy but eased off after 12 midnight as well.
We're now at Silves and people sunbathing, what a difference, obviously the storm had passed through to France.
