Had a letter this morning from the people who fitted my electronicly braked A Frame.
Could anyone interperate it into English as to what it means ?

General unhelpful stuff, basically saying that the Aframe doesn't need type approval, which I think we all knew anyway. It is the combination of A frame and towed car that may need type approval, so the A frame is legal, as long as you don't use it.
Looks like we can get away with it in the UK but probably nowhere else.
As I understand it, whether the braking is electric or not is a bit of a red herring. Before October legal in UK, afterwards probably not but it appears that the UK authorities aren't going to do anything about it.

I understand that it is now not legal to fit an a frame to any new car registered after November 1st.

If these people were anti A frame they would interpret this differently.
But as they make them they aren't going to see it that way.

new legislation states over run brakes only allowed on centre axle trailers....a car is not centre axle so from the date of the new regulations it is illegal to tow a new car using over run braking.
A frames have nothing to do with the new regs.

The OP's letter appears to be from an a frame supplier?
If so, keep in mind their only interest is in selling the things.

The situation hasn't really changed?
They aren't strictly legal.
They aren't strictly illegal.
Let's see how it goes.

Isn't that about it?

Never yet found a VOSA man who can find a definitive "legal / illegal" answer as yet.
They are or are not, depends what you want them to be.

The simple solution to the question is to get the nice Mr. Buttons on the job, to get them banned.

Just ask them to confirm that towing with an A frame is legal in Spain - if the answer is in the affirmative then you know that they are telling porkies.:(
