I'm a newbie and always will be. You never know it all.
May seem obvious to all you who know.
Just finished fitting a Gas-It twin bottle system so now need to try it, do you turn the gas bottles off when filling.... open them or doesn't it mater.
It's the Auto change over system by the way.

Thanks in advance
Les

Les - turn the bottle valve open or it won't go in!
When I had an LPG tank (on an RV) turned the fill valve open - but shut off the feed to the van. Assume it will be the same on a bottle system.

See ya tomorrow!!!

We turn ours off as per instructions , but to be honest don't see it makes much difference but if your bottles are empty anyway no big deal turning them off

Turn bottle off for filling to prevent any excess filling pressure from damaging the regulator etc.

Did it not come with instructions/fitting/filling guides?

Where will you be able to fill bottles? I think perhaps this system is different to Autogas and GASLOW bottles which are in effect tanks and have 80% cut off to allow for expansion of the gas and can be filled at Autogas points
Gaslow bottles should be turned off to fill
Onboard fridge should be turned off when filling
If you overfill bottles it is my understanding that this is posibly dangerous when lighting gas rings stove etc
Someone may correct me with the above?

Right Barsteward from a local lad, turn both bottles OFF get in driving seat and go to Rosegrove, connect to gas hose at pump, pulling trigger to lock point, press and HOLD button on pump until it stops, disconnect gun not jumping when it hisses, pay at shop and then drive back to Walsden----- job done

What size bottles did you get Les?

Pay attention to this!

IMPORTANT: FIRST FILLING ONLY. In some rare instances it is possible that on the FIRST FILL ONLY, the 80% shutoff
may fail to activate. It is therefore IMPORTANT to pay attention when filling for the first time.
When using the 11kg cylinder - ensure your maximum fill is no more than 22.5litres. With a 6Kg cylinder - the maximum should be
12litres. If you are using a system employing 2 cylinders which are filled together, add the maximum volumes for the cylinders
together. e.g. If you are using two 11Kg cylinders - your maximum fill should be no more than 45litres. If you are using an 11Kg
and a 6Kg cylinder then your maximum would be no more than 34.5litres. Two 6Kg cylinders would be 24litres

Good advice above from Andy. I always watch how much is going in if I know I have one bottle to fill I know roughly when it should could out and wait with anticipation.

You'll find the bottles have a float valve stopping the fill at about 80% so overfill is not a problem. The gauge is fairly rubbish as in the red there is still a third left. Otherwise it's the mutts nuts.(y)

Got R67 bottles which have gauges that actually work properly as they are fixed in the top of the bottle

Not long enough!
All garages that serve LPG will have someone working there that you can call on should you have a problem.
If you are going abroad, I think there are three other adapters that you can get to fill up.

I have had them for years now, and worth every penny, especially if you camp all year and like to have the heating on when its cold lol

many many years! since I was a kid
as mentioned already, be careful on the first fill of the cylinders as the shut off float valve is well known to stick. once its got nearly 80% in the cylinders, the liquid propane will slosh about as the vehicle is driven, which usually releases the stuck float.

on one van I had the valve was still sticking after the first fill, but was easily fixed with a few hard taps of a rubber mallet near the top of the cylinder
