Hi,
Have caravanned around Europe etc for 37 years and bought our first motorhome 18 months ago, as we thought it would be easier and more convenient than a caravan, which it is. We started with a new Rollerteam 200 family ( because motorhomes aren't a cheap item !) we have driven 13k plus miles so far and nothing has gone wrong, which requires a mention. Whether it is sensible or not we are looking to upgrade to a Chausson( design not yet decided) .
It does seem as though dealers want to pay the cheapest price for your second hand MH and also want full retail price for a new one! Is this the norm?
Having looked at various forums this one seems excellent so hoping to learn more from experienced motorhomers.
Thanks for having us.

Hi and welcome from Ilfracombe. As to your query yes of course it is normal, they want to make as much as possible and have to warranty your van when they sell it on. When looking to upgrade remember British vans are built to cope with a southern European Summer, whilst European vans especially French and German are built to cope with a NORTHERN European winter. You pays your money and makes your choice. Obviously the best deal is selling privately and then bartering for a straight cash purchase.

Hi & welcome from another local Funster! We have a Chausson Best Of 04 on a Ford chassis which we are pleased with for what we paid & we love the layout with a raised bed over a large garage in under 6m. Rollerteam are an excellent brand too & not sure if Chausson are really an upgrade from their build quality?! When thinking of changing we can highly recommend visiting the October Motorhome Shows at the NEC as that's where (with lots of dealers with sales targets for the next years new range) there are deals to be had(y) We normally go for the weekend & stay overnight nearby as there is so much with almost all the layouts from all the manufacturers to see especially if you are looking to buy. It's normal for the manufacturers to offer an extras/upgrade pack usually worth between £1000 to £3000 at the same retail cost plus dealers normally offer discounts or can add extras like Fiamma awning, reversing camera or similiar within the same price:) We bought our Chausson there & although Highbridge couldn't supply it (limited stock sold out) we bought from another Chausson dealer but no problem having it serviced/warranty work at Highbridge. There is a show in February at the NEC but more emphasis on caravans in the publicity for it so don't know if as good for motorhomes? See http://www.caravancampingmotorhomes...Y7tS3eQqi_ug9AxhDL3aqBsBOCfaF7W_ZmBoCITTw_wcB
Perhaps some other Funsters have been & can advise?

As far as the NEC shows are concerned, October show is much better for M.Homes and the February show, although good, has more emphasis on caravans.

Thought that was probably the case - looking at show layout map there are only 3 halls including caravans so not much compared to October show with around 7 halls?!

Thank you everyone for your welcomes along with views on Chausson Motorhomes.
We will have to decide now whether to take the chance of trying to sell privately, and then take the chance that we can buy another MH that suits us before we are off again in late May 2015. We should have taken more interest at the October 2014 show we went to, as it seems stocks of new MH's are not available readily after the show.

The Show is overwhelming as so much to see & very busy so not an easy task to get round it all. If you like Chaussons then you might want to consider Benimar make too as very similiar being part of the Trigano group. For one year Marquis are the only importer (but may change next year) of their models built to UK spec see this thread for discussion about this http://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum...one-from-the-carado-range.96641/#post-1192426

Hi from (North) Somerset, and :welc:

Regarding Roller Team and Chausson - both brands are from the same group - Trigano.

We've got a 4-year old Chausson Flash S2, which we bought new - not from Highbridge - but they did the warranty work (only few minor things required), and we let them do the habitation services too, which is a requirement for the 5-year water ingress warranty. Generally happy with their service, although need to make arrangements well ahead to book in for any work.

Oh, and yes, we like the Chausson - been all over much of southern Europe, no problems.
