Answer three questions and then spot-the-ball, pay your £30 and you have a 1 in 2667 chance of winning. I was always useless at spotting the ball so I won't bother.

Looks like its selling a ticket a day so it might be a while before the draw takes place. Its a nice prize though, and absolutely gorgeous rig that I would love to own. But I think the owner will struggle to sell the tickets even after all this publicity I have just given it. I especially dislike the terms that say if enough tickets aren't sold then rather than get your money back, you get a chance to win 70% of the take. Seems like the vendor is in a win-win situation :Eeek:

I voiced misgivings about it on RVOC,
Stan, the organiser PMed me to reassure that it was legit..

I'm sure he won't mind me pasting his reply ..

Hi, just to let you know the competition is not a scam

no affence taken but, I am well known in the arve club and if any body wants to inspect the rv they are veary welcome,

But like Jim, I'm hopeless at spot the ball, and for that reason... I'm Out

If every ticket sells the income is approx £80,000
the promoters are entitled to keep up to 30% which is approx £24,000
they are giving 2.25% to charity approx £1,800

If the vehicle is worth 72k the figures dont seem to add up.

The bit I particularly like is number 24 The Prize will be transferred by the Promoter to the Winner of the Competition free from all charges.

So just how much and what are the charges involved - is the vehicle in the UK is it registered, are there outstanding import or excise duties to be paid.

Be interesting to see if a real person actually wins it.

I can assure anybody who is interested that this vehicle is in the UK, it is a genuine vehicle - it has been on display at Carvynick (last autumn) - and the reason that Stan is trying to sell the vehicle this way - is simply because no dealer is willing to give him the price that he wants.

He has already imported another RV for his own use.

He is quite well known on the RV circuit as an "Elvis Presley Impersonator" and has performed at Carvynick on a couple of occasions recently.

It is a genuine offer BUT I am not advocating that anybody should partake in the offer if they have any doubts.

Some of you may have seen his personalised number plate "ELV 1 S" ) I kid you not - it is his!

This is the same idea as those company's that offer luxury motor vehicles at airports.

Except this is being run by an individual who wants to dispose of their own unwanted vehicle.

I too find the 'If not all tickets sold then 70% of sales to the winner...' situation concerning.

If they sell all bar one ticket. then instead of parting with the RV they can part with 70% of the sales (approx. £56,000) and pocket the rest (over £20,000) AND keep the RV.

I'm not for one minute suggesting that they would, merely pointing out that they could.

Anyway, I wish them luck and hope it all goes perfectly and I get to meet the £30 RV owner one day ::bigsmile:

There are as a few have stated problems with this Raffle, to many for it to succeed
Stan may have the credentials of a saint
But in this day of open Internet fraud it is doomed to failure, I would almost stake £30 on that fact alone
At best he is going to be accused of all sorts of misgivings
What if a friend in the ARVE wins it, Con I hear them shout, what if it does fall short and a cash prize is offered, Con I hear them shout
Stan take some advise
Refund the tickets you have sold and sell it elsewhere
You are on to a hiding to nothing, there may be one winner but whatever the outcome it wont be you it is sure to end in tears:cry::cry::cry:

Obviously has unrealistic expectations of current market value, still dreaming on pre-credit crunch figures, and oblivious to the fact that prices of things like this depreciate by thousands the minute it's turned a wheel off the dealer forecourt!

If he set his price to sell......then somebody would have bought it. But obviously he's still living in cloud cuckoo land.

There was a similar case recently on a TV programme where a couple decided to try selling their home and fishing business via lottery tickets;
Fancy a £1m home for £25? | Money | The Guardian

The house was up for sale at £950k until the property market collapsed. So they decided to try and run a lottery on it. The website has been temporarily suspended after the Gambling Commission got involved.

If the guy can afford to import another rv he can't be short of a bob or two- he may as well stick it down his garden and wait for values to go up again. Also ,being a bit pedantic I wouldn't like an rv that had 6 births- were they boys or girls? and "very bright headlights"?- sounds like its been messed about a bit. Just my opinion.

Hi, you mention the lottery to win a house has been suspended the reason being you are right it is a lottery and just for the record a lottery needs a licence so the people running the lottery to win a house should have instructed a lawer on gambling like i have becouse a lottery is a game of chance thats classed as gambling and a competition is a game of skill
that is why we have three questions and spot the ball,

Thanks for your coments Stan

Hi Stan you missed the point. BERTHS, are what you sleep in BIRTHS are the number of children you have given birth to. A 6 birth RV would be producing more in the years to come keep it for breeding, besides the little ones will be easier to sell. Hee hee hee

If it guarantees 6 "births" I will pay for the winning answers - our son wants brothers and sisters and it just hasnt happened.

On a more serious note it is actually pleasant to see this appears more genuine than when I originally looked at it (and this is purely my personal opiniont). The harsh fact is that there are just so many scammers out there and occasionally the genuine items get branded or thought of as scams too.

In order to qualify as a prize lottery, any competition must adhere to the following:-

The Gambling Commission does not regulate prize competitions but we do monitor the boundaries between those and lotteries. The commission is unable to give advice on issues we have no statutory control, therefore it would be better placed for individuals hoping to enter, or hoping to organise a prize competition, to seek independent legal advice.

The guidance we provide for the organisers of these competitions is below:

A genuine prize competition is one that contains a requirement to exercise skill or judgement or to display knowledge and where it can reasonably be expected that that requirement will either:

(a) Prevent a significant proportion of people who wish to participate from doing so (section 14(5)(b) of the Gambling Act 2005 Act); or

(b) Prevent a significant proportion of people who participate from receiving a prize (section14 (5) (a)).

If one of these barriers to entry or success can be shown, the process will not be deemed to rely wholly upon chance, and the arrangement will not be a lottery.

You will need to make sure the proposed competition is lawful in the UK and will need to refer to a specialist licensing firm if required .

So, as long as these requirements are met, all should be okay:)
