C.B. Radio (1 Viewer)

Hi dose any one stil use a C.B. Radio . I had one in the 1980 .

I remember them being quite popular at one time, there was a CB magazine called 'Breaker'. I don't think us Brits ever really took to the American style lingo used - 'breaker 1 - 4 for a copy' and other such stuff.

I have a CB in my classic Hymer but can't find a mic that will plug into it...

So I can listen only...

Use to be pretty active in the old days when it was illegal and not swamped by youngsters...

What is it like out there these days?

Actually it was accidental, but I am now going to claim that it was deliberate

I still have a set but haven't used it for years. Currently in a steel container as I am having my garage rebuilt - that was an opportunity to chuck it out but I clearly didn't take it!

I have one permanently in my Landrover along with a 2m radio as some of our response group are not licensed radio amatuers. CB can be used in a convoy or if a group are in a fairly small area but its range is not good.
I have a CB springer and a 2m/70cm mounted on the bike rack on the motorhome, so potentially could easily use cb there, however it is rare to find anyone on cb these days, just a few truckers still use it.

We've got a nice bandstand. Just been refurbished and a listed building, and I'm sure very comfortable.

I keep on threatening to find somewhere for the Kenwood tri-bander in the MH... But realistically there is no where neat left to mount it.. and Woman would not be impressed either ( even the chicken box HAS to have a speaker mounted right up behind my ear so she cannot really hear it )

Got one in the RV we bought in the US unfortunately it was AM frequency which was no use after we shipped it to the UK That rig was binned and a Midland 38 purchased however think I may need the SWR checking, either that or when I have turned it on the only sound I'm getting is static and very occasionally a faint voice signal. Perhaps we are the only two in the world with rigs?

It aint exactly busy on there nowadays, especially with half on the old 27/81 channels and half on the cept channels !
But I have found it still has its uses for traffic updates and the like.. Mind you, had a long chat with a couple of log haulers at Calais docks on the way back this summer.. Turned out I knew one of them from when I 'were a lad' !

You can get an swr meter for as little as fiver nowadays Worth the investment !

But.. If you are in Spain are you sure your rig is on the right channels ?
Wants to be switched to CEPT not UK...

There are a lot of Radio Hams with radios in motorhomes and have worldwide communication HF as well as VHF and UHF. I have a mast which fits to bike rack and can operate on most bands when stationary and a duelband whip for VHF and UHF which can be handy when travelling as repeaters give me a range up to 50 miles. Can also use CB but do not due to limitations.

As I only have a foundation licence so far, I cannot use anything but CB abroad, so very limited except in UK and I don't tour here much.

Have two one in motorhome and one in my Discovery 1, have used one for a few years on off road trips, also in convoys through europe raiseing money for charities, used on last year when we went to Morocco with 4/5 others, will be going back to Morocco next year,

Given the amount of licensed ops on here I wonder if it is worth running a net ?
40mtrs is running high at the moment..
The present sun spot cycle might be the lowest for 100 years but it is still killing 80 mtrs as we are pretty much at its ( albeit low ) peak

You could always do the full licence Reallyretired. Like Polar bear I have the facility for UHF/VHF & HF in the van along with Digital the latter I am using using more if close to DStar or DMR repeaters as you can work the world with no noise

I am well out of touch with that technology ( I think possibly cos of Icoms involvement and me being a bit ( stupidly ) biased agin ! )

I used to have D-star but got rid of it not worth the extra cost as most people who have it monitor and use analogue any way. A 40 mtr net is a good idea as this band is usually open and gives good coverage. I might be on 40m this afternoon iff anyone about my callsighn is G4TJB
