That's the catch, they are very expensive but compared to say a multi-centre holiday in hotels with flights the difference is not so great.

Much cheaper to do it on your own but an escorted tour would give peace of mind and you could expect the guides to have good knowledge of the area.

I was offered the opportunity to go on one last year to Greece and back but it was only about 3 weeks and seemed very rushed to me. I would like to drive to Greece but can't see us doing it in less than 6 weeks as a minimum. The cost per day is worth looking at.

We have done a tour with them, they are very good but to be honest not a lot you can't do yourself with a bit of planning. We also did Morocco with a Tour company 8 years ago, and last year we did it with members of Fun, seen a lot more at a easier pace at a fraction of the cost.

Check this out this hire firm in Hertfordshire want a number of experienced MH users to collect their new stock motorhome's (Roller Team) from Tuscany in April next year 2015
People will be charged an amount which well is below market rates (even for April) see their website for actual prices. You will also be expected to pay for fuel, road tolls etc

You'll & any passengers (passengers at your cost) will be flown out and taken by coach from the airport to the factory to collect the vans which will be fully equipped ready to go with crockery, pots & pans + bedding etc & I assume gas?
The reason for this is that JustGo staff will have arrived the previous week to equip them. The trip takes ten days.

Whilst I have no business or financial connection with this company I do know they're a good bunch why? because we bought our current van from them at a VERY reasonable price

I was approached by a motorhome hire company some years ago who were sending there UK stock down to Spain for the winter. There plan was to fly customers into Spain and send them on guided tours around Spain and Morocco. What they were wanting was someone to set it up and act as a tour guide. It would have been very lucrative, but after I had done some homework I thought they would not get many customers for what they were charging, which I thought was a lot. How wrong I was. Just goes to show, some will pay a lot of money for what I would consider as very little. It turned into one of the hire companies biggest earners.

Friends of ours went on one to Italy, and they are experienced motorhomes, they enjoyed the the meeting up and sight seeing but the thing they hated was the amount of driving they did a day, they gave you the route and the campsite for that evening.

;) We have just had an exclusive tour of Portugal with JJ and he travels too fast for us, but he knows the best of site ruffty tuffty off site parking and some good restaurants.

I would say best to tag along with someone and after a couple of hours you will feel you had doing it all your life.(y) Bob.

We have travelled with GB Privilege on a few occasions. They are expensive but we like what they offer.
Travel to areas we wouldn't go to solo ie. Serbia, Bulgaria Romania.
The English language tours of cities.
Travelling with others makes a change.
Visits to places and activities we would not have known about or have be able to get tickets for ie The Estonian song and dance festival, a spectacular event.
We went on the Batic circle trip this year with 19 other vans all of which were experienced travels and had a fantastic time.
We are booked on the Danube trip and follow on next year. On the outward journey we will join in Stasbourg and return ourselves from Ancona via the French Alps. We don't travel in a convoy taking our own route and time to sites. Most people do.
It's clearly not to everyone's liking or pocket but each to their own.

Indeed, I was just showing off with the speed...

I don't normally go faster than 75 kph but with you three behind me I went up to 80 kph because I didn't want Izzy to become impatient.

Rufty Tufty Off-Site Freeloaders' Portuguese Tours available to selected, Christmas Card List Funsters

Very reasonable prices... (A Fray Bentos (no chicken or kidney) Pie or 3 packets of Angel Delight per day).

Complete antithesis of motorhoming. And it seems, expensive.

Danube is just down the road, it's as easy a doing Wales but with a language normal people can pronounce.

On your own, with trusty ACSI book in hand, you do it at your pace and if you like a place you stay longer.

I admit we did an escorted tour of Morocco, but that was fear of the unknown, in the end it was as easy as Europe and I was annoyed at the wasted money.

Not only that in passing conversation they said some tours are a nightmare when people do not get on with one another. The tour splitting into two factions who would not speak to each other.

You only need one *&*&^^% in the group to ruin a holiday.

Traveling with others is not my way of doing things, sorry. I cannot imagine being tied to one other van. Did it twice when I was a tugger and didn't enjoy it at all. We go off and do our own thing, period, don't even know where we are going half the time but usually enjoy it when we get there.

Well it's a tad complicated with JJ as you can't use your sat nav ! Don't you know about JJ ? If you don't agree with him ... it means you are wrong:rolleyes:! My Sat Nav was always wrong:whistle:... I can't fight:D! I just let him drive in front ..moaning sometimes when he is too slow for me as Max can't manage high hills without a bit of speed before! And he moans about me too because he's afraid to lose me on the way:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: As if !
So that's the pair of us , moaning, but at least , none of us hears the other one's commentso_O :p

Wholehearted agree Brain ...

Did the same tour in 2007. and thought it very poor value for money.. we could easily have done it on our own and at a fraction of the cost.. from an operators point of view it's money for old rope.

At the end of the trip in Essaouira , I asked for our ferry return tickets so we could extend the trip... that is when the real trip started.. We went at our own pace, stopped where and when we wanted.. just wish we had done the whole trip on our own...

All went well, however, when we went to board the ferry we discovered we didn't have tickets for the two kids.... so we had to pay for them again.

So for us never again.. it's poor value for money.. and it's not nearly as enjoyable as doing your own thing..

I've never enjoyed traveling with others.. tried it several times and it has always ended in grief.. no matter how well you get on, chances are you will fall out and go your own way.. seen it happen many times.

Meet up, spend a few days then move on.. great..
