Hi Fiat owners reasonably new,
Just took my 2014 2.3 m/h back to my local dealer for a couple of minor electrical faults under warrantee, ( which currently they cant fix or fiat cant supply any help) while there , the workshop foreman asked to look under the bonnet , we did and he pointed out that on 2013/14 models sometimes, there is a leak thru the skuttle panel on the passenger side at the bottom of the windscreen, this leek drips down on to the ECU unit which is immediately below , causing electrical faults sometime in the future . Having checked mine , new skuttle panel ordered which then has to be glue in to stop the leak.
Suggest owners check there's or get it checked at local dealer before it becomes expensive if it lasts past the warrantee.

Hi Fidget,
Is yours being done under warranty or are you saying your having to fork out yourself . Just bought a 2013 2.3 but don't pick it up for a couple of weeks so will be mentioning it to the dealer:frowny:

Pleased I drive a Transit based MH. To have design issues such as these on a design that's a good few years old doesn't make me any more confident in Italian engineering.

T350/ 140 Do not be so sure, I looked at my cylinder head and thought that I had a water leak on the front, It is sctually rainwater running in down the scuttle panel drain, onto the head, and it seems it rusts the injectors in and then shorts them out after they are welded with rust into the head. I am making a deflector panel to take the water to the side where it will drain down freely without hitting vital bits.

I had the scuttle panel replaced and glued in on my 2010 Peugeot based Elddis in. 2011 for the same reason, seems a long drawn out fix by Fiat/ Peugeot, why don't you check your chassis number to see the actual build date?

2 years is the Fiat warranty. But this fault doesn't effect all vehicles. Note the "sometimes" in the OP.

Thks devon, it was sourced in the uk so why the extra year or do you mean manufactured in the uk ( mine is a Germany van)
Thks
It is covered here, note the 3rd year excludes MHs. http://www.fiatprofessional.co.uk/uk/Services/Warranty/Contractual_Warranty

However, I know someone who did get a third year out of the dealer but that was for a PVC where the original unconverted van was sourced through the same dealer. This was for a Murvi who buy their vans from Vospers in Plymouth.

Must be my naivety but I'm astonished that if the above fault has been recognized for some time the manufacturers are not doing the fix during manufacturing

Swift derived MHs give an extra year on the base vehicle to take them to 3 years from new. must check mine.

Edit _ Both sides of my scuttle panel have drain tubes directed away from any workings.

I noticed that on mine but get blocked very easily only a very narrow tube taking the water away
Did see somewhere that you can put a tie wrap (cable tie ) in the tube to stop crap blocking it up

Drivers side tube looks about 30mm nearside very narrow.

The cable tie trick maybe for a different type to keep the rubber gland apart. ???

Ah yes Ford Transit MHs. I had one of those from new. Very slow up any incline. Chassis alignment wrong, electrical fault flattened battery (twice), cruise control packed up, auto gearchange worked sometimes, injectors failed twice. Doesn't make me any more confident in Belgium engineering. Pleased I drive a Fiat based MH now. A vastly better design and not a single thing has gone wrong.

Well my transit was built in Turkey, as were most of the chassis cabs LT350.

Intresting, mine has got 2 very small pipes no more than 5mm on each side directly under the window wipers which you have to lift for access and a larger 30mm main drain towards the drivers side so maybe mine is one of the models requiring some mods
Did think it was a poor design, having read on here about this problem on earlier models, you would have thought the design engineers would have addressed this since it is an ongoing problem
If you don't mind what year is yours bobby22

I've just had to remove the scuttle on my 2011 Ducato and reseal it. I got a new set of clips and then bedded the whole thing onto Sikalastomer 710, a non setting mastic. Final seal at the corners with CT1 clear and watertight so far.
I would recommend that anyone with a Ducato X250 carry spare scuttle clips as if you get a screen go the fitter will break the scuttle clips removing it and then try and bodge it back. That was the problem on mine. I presume the Peugeot and Ciroen have the same clips?

Excuse ignorant question - what is a scuttle and what does it look like? Does this problem affect particular style of motorhomes eg coach built/ a class etc?
