We had our first visit to Abbey Wood this weekend and travelled via the woolwich ferry rather than the Dartford Crossing. We were turning into the site entrance at 1.45 and were all sorted and on the train to central London by 2.00pm, 25 minutes later we were at London Bridge.
Sunday morning we were on the first train out again to see the poppies. Once you get to the Tower your First reaction is wow, spectacular but then when you realise what you are looking at, that each poppy represents a life lost - it is a very sobering experience. If you have a chance, go and see them - the Last Post will be sounded at 4.55 each day Up to 10th November.
Due to spectacular bad planning on our part we knew we had to be leaving early so we caught the first ferry this morning - 6.10am.
If you're thinking of visiting London, Abbey Wood is a great site, easy access into central London.
We had a great weekend but it was too short as usual.........
I just wanted to say thanks to Gordon (rapido925m) for telling us about the ferry, which is free and gives easy access to the site. (View from the ferry)
