Losing power overnight (1 Viewer)

Hi I have 2x80 watt panel connected through a 20 amp charge controller to 2x 110 amh leisure batteries, the problem I am having is I'm losing voltage overnight, I've even installed a diode between the +panel lead and the charge controller but still lose power. As a test last night I disconnected one battery and this morning the connected one was down to 12.62v whereas the disconnected battery was 12.96v. My charge controller stops charging at 13.5v and starts again at 13.4v any help would be most appreciated .

Hi Jim it's an old classic 1979 Bedford cf350 ADVANTURA had it for over five years now and before that was a VW bay window 1970.

I wouldn't know where to start Dave. Something is drawing it. If you can't find what it is, it might be worth fitting a battery isolation switch.

A full battery voltage will settle down to around 12.7v once all charging (by any method) has stopped. You're bound to have some drain on the electrics overnight too, but as hilldweller said above - your morning voltage seems about right.

what you see at the end of the day is surface voltage which drops off to a fully charged level after about an hour. not a lot to worry about.

i suspect the first reading was with the solar still putting some in you need to wait an hour after sundown to take the evening voltage

12.62 is fully charged, what's the problem ?

As I recall from all the battery sites I've been on 12.8v is fully charged and like I said the disconnected battery was 12.96v, I've read up fairly well on batteries and most places state that 24 hours rest after a full charge the voltage of a good battery should be 12.8v, it's losing it through the panel as I see it I've change over to switching that battery off and seeing what voltage the other battery previously 12.96 this morning is tomorrow I'll get back with my findings.
