water level sensor (1 Viewer)

20 year old Hobby Body..
Water tank sensor does not do overly much ( !! )
Anyone know if there is a replacement available ?
The rest of the kit fitted is Truma as far as I can work out ( if that means anything at all ! )

The thing is simply a tube with a ferit ring that goes up and down.
The actual gauge on the Zig panel is working ( it just reads full all the time ! )
Removing the sender from the tank and manually moving the ferit bauble thing makes not a jot of difference

Hi check the earth lead on the sensor is making a good contact -this is sometimes an easy fix.

best thing is not bother with it!

the sensors are about as accurate as pointing at the moon on a cloudy night.

if your tank's accessible just have a visual from time to time:thumb:

Thanks for the info and the idea re earth..
And yup, thats what we have been doing for the past year ( visually checking ) but you know what its like.. Something not working is something to play with

Right.. with the idea of a duff earth I decided to actually see wha was what..
Turns out there is no earth on the level system at all.. It is merely a loop on the feed side that has the sensor in line.
In the sensor is 6 reed switches activated by magnets in the ring ( which tturned out to be just a piece of black styrene or the like.
Took it apart and found that 1 of the reeds was open and not switching no matter what, and 4 of the remaining switches were permenantly on !
A quick search on line and I bought a bunch of the reed switches for a tenner ( got a couple of spares just in case )
They should be here tomorrow and I will be putting it all back together..
I shall report on the success or failure !

Yesterday the reed switches arrived from RS Components ( Not the cheapest around but a quick reliable service )

Replaced the duff switches and popped the circuit board back into its tube.
I used some quick cure epoxy resin to reseal the bottom of the tube.

Late afternoon and I went and dropped the assembly back into the tank.
Perfect !

Emtied the tak and then refilled it.. Readings were spot on all the way up.
Well pleased .. A full repair for about a tenner ANDa bit more learnt about how 'things motorhome' function

Actually the gray tank I would not mind but I will take a pass on the other one !!
You get the sender unit out and send it me I will happily have a go for you
