We parked for two nights at the castle, brilliant place to walk round. Ancient, disused bull ring. Baragems that is.

I thought a baragem was a dam, obviously with lake behind.Never seen one with a bullring and castle. The best place IMHO is in the Algarve near Paderne.PM for details.Writing this from there now and been here for 18 nights and staying for the winter.

I'm in not so sunny Spain at the moment (rained most of today) but the forecast for the Algarve is pretty good for the next 10 days although the odd shower possible at the weekend - this is where we are heading.

The most beautiful place I have seen so far is Foz de Alge in central Portugal. But it is a bit wet and grey here at the moment. I am about half an hour from there :) We loved Porto too. Amazing place! Cathedral was spectacular!

If you want to break your journey in Porto - I would recommend the camp site we used it was fab! It is called Canidelo Camping, it is on the coast, great views, lots of restaurants around during the day, and a bus ride in to Porto - but the bus drivers are nuts, so you have to be brave! The staff were great too, gave us a long talk on all the best places to see in Porto, even drew a route on the map for us so we didn't miss anything!

a place i like is about 25 mls north of figueira de foz next beach up from praia de tocha . its on bumpy forest roads . nothing there really just a great place , nice beach . few places to stop . there was a cafe years ago. you may find a sign palheirao praia. its on cantanheda dunes . love it there but take every thing you might need .

JJ, Pedro's is already fully booked for certain periods this winter.Anyone who has not yet visited and would like to, would be advised to contact the site first.Don't,IMHO,just turn up expecting to be accommodated;there are only 16 pitches and most of the people who spent months there last winter have already reserved for this.Just to reinforce the point, JJ, we spent 3 months here earlier this year and returned nearly 3 weeks ago and we're staying put now until at least after Easter next year. The best place to spend winter on the Algarve in my humble opinion.
