Today I got round to repairing the roof of our Autotrail Tracker that I damaged by catching a shop sign last month. All carried out with the help of my friend and neighbour. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Thanks Roy!!!

Wow, brilliant job!! I think it takes skill and guts to cut a hole, take out the broken and then do such a good job on it :)

We know who to come too now then, don't we (y)

Great job. Would it not be possible to sand down damaged area and then use filler before smoothing and polish!

No it was a lot worse than it looks in the photos. It was so soft that you could easily have pushed a finger through it. I think too soft to fill against.

Have you enquired on the price of a decal to finish it off?

Hi Baycott

Nice job but in my opinion (20 years running a composite business) you would have been OK to grind away the Gelcoat and then harden up the remaining soft fibre with a polyester resin and then fill and paint.

I am not trying to criticise, rather offer an alternative option for anybody unlucky enough to be faced with the same problem.

In business we repaired a lot of carbon fibre bike frames and never cut areas away completely as it would cause a high stress point and the ultimate repair would not be as structurally sound, motorhome bodywork is not as highly stressed of course so either method works OK.

Thanks for the advice Martin (y)
Should I be unlucky enough to have another repair to do I will bear your suggestion in mind. ;)

Tight corner and an overhanging eave/gutter? (Speaks an embarrassed voice of experience)
I've been really lucky to date. I've almost had the roof before, especially on an overhanging low building, but so far that lucky angel has sat on my shoulder :)

Nice repair job :)

Yep it just had a service and new belt etc.. and it caught the corner of the garage office roof on blind side on the way out of the place, the guy that was supposed to be watching it back shouted stop and oops to late and was never seen again
