See I know Scottish dancing especially over the sword was to show how brave and nibble u where on your feet. But Morris dancing has always baffled me... Where did it come from who started it was it old mo? .....

It's a form of choreographed dance, thought to originate from the Moors ie Moorish Dance.

The Moors as you know, controlled much of southern Europe between the 8th and 15th century.

Why do you ask?

Are you planning to take it up?

Well I am doing a study on country dances . Morris dancing come up in the seminar. Very interesting subject.

A well-used anonymous witticism, often misattributed to Oscar Wilde, states that you should "try anything once except incest or Morris dancing", which is easier said than done if you were born in Norfolk.

For successful Morris Dancing you need shoes with good traction, otherwise you slip off the bonnet.
