Trust me you don't need to take much, just about every supermarket sells Gordon's.

I was stopped coming back from Spain this year by French police on the A75.
I was took into the services and searched and I had 32 litres of whiskey a few bottles of wine and a slab of beer, I had kept all the receipts and there was no problem at all.

Provided it is for your own consumption there is no limit when travelling between EU member states. In practice, the EU has indicated a guideline for spirits of 10 litres to account for 'personal consumption'. Member states may set their own guideline amounts but they cannot be lower than the EU advisory amount. See this EU web page: Link Removed

The reason French police are hot on checking travellers entering from Spain is because people transit via Andorra which is outside the EU and sells cheap booze (if entering the EU from an outside country the limit for strong alcohol is 1 litre).

I think your wifey needs to have a re-think about her alcohol consumption if she wants to live a bit longer!
