We've just bought a motorhome from a dealer but can't collect as the V5 is with the DVLA to transfer a personalised numberplate off of the van.

Has anyone any idea about how long this might take? Had hoped to get the van by the end of next week. Just sold our old van leaving vanless and with a weekend away already booked!

We're in the process of doing it the other way - transferring a plate onto a van via a dealer and they've said it should take about 5 days. We live in hope!

Bought a new van and dealer handled it all. I just had to send a few documents in to the dealer beforehand so that the private plate could be transferred. The V5 and tax disc arrived after about 10 days

Why did you not just take the van with the original reg on then transfer over at your leisure, at least that way you have the van to use. :thumb:

not long enough
We do this a lot with company cars, it is now much harder as the local offices do not handle them any more they all have to go to Swansea

They quote 10 days max, presuming everything is in order

I am presuming the MH you are buying had the private plate of the previous owner, unless you bought it back on the day it came in to the dealers it should be well under way by now

It's the previous owner who has the personalised plate, not us! It's out of our hands.

If you sign a document to stait you have no interest in or hold over the registration you could take the van a d swap the plates afterwards. The only problem might be your insurance may want a fee for issue ing a nee insurance document
