12 volt Kettle.. (1 Viewer)

While the sun is shining and the solar panels are working it seems a shame not to use the power there producing.

Has anyong used or have a 12 volt kettle, are they any good and worth buying one.

I had one in my work van for tea breaks.......once

Tried using it once with the engine running and plugged into the fag lighter socket.....1/2 litre of water vs 15 minute tea break........tea break over before it even got warm.

They are on a par with 12v hair driers.....good idea but totally useless.

Agree with pappajohn. Had one a few years ago and it took forever to boil.

I waited half an hour for one to boil, mashed and then knocked my cup over. BUSBY.

Same here had one, no still got one it takes about 25 minutes to boil no good if you in a hurry

We just use a 1000w 240v one off the inverter when we are feeling flush for battery capacity!

That's basically all the time unless we are skiing!

As above....had one in the car in case I stopped on the long commute home to eat, because I never liked the service station/McD/BurgerKing coffee.

Took so long to boil I'd finished eating and was ready to leave before it was ready :Sad:

The kettle's in the van now.....for when all else fails. Haven't used it yet.

Just had a look at the price of 12v kettles, around £15 - £20 mostly by the looks of them.

That buys a lot of gas for boiling whistling kettles

We just use a 1Kw mains kettle off the inverter. Useful when stopping for coffee as you don't heat up the van in the summer. Could also use it on the tunnel I suppose

We've had many a fresh cuppa on the Chunnel!

And run our fridge from our inverter on the Harwich to Hook of Holland crossing.

Good batteries ARE worth the modest extra outlay!

A friend has a 24 volt one in his truck it's crap.
We generally put it on around 40 miles away from our destination so we don't have to wait too long for a brew when we arrive.

Never bothered with one, we use gas.
But there are other alternatives if you worry that your gas is being used up.
If we have time and the weather is good, we have two choices. We have a small Coleman dual fuel stove that will boil a kettle in a few minutes and if we are feeling "green" a Kelly kettle that makes us feel like Mr and Mrs Bear Grylls ( well, almost, we still use matches to light it.

Brilliant idea - damn all use

put it on today for tea tomorrow

I believe the 12 volt frypan - 12v sandwich toaster fit in the same bracket

the only 12 volt appliance to live up to its name is the 12 volt slow cooker

and guess what - ITS REALLY SLOW
