Hi everyone off to France soon for a few weeks and I know one of my refillable gas bottles is empty, so my question is, is it cheaper to fill up in the UK before I go or wait until France. :thumb:

Greetings David,

According to this site;

http://www.prix-carburants.gouv.fr/

the cheapest in the Calais area is about 65p a Litre. Having said that, you could pay up to about 79p. Depends where you go.

Sorry, I don't have the price of gas for the South East of England.
Have a good trip.

We found that most places were not a lot different to The UK, except for one garage in Portugal that charged us nearly a Euro for a ltr.

I have found Auchan, Carrefour or Intermarche to be the cheapest usually.

Don't fill with GPL on the Autoroutes it costs an absolute bomb, generally ten to fifteen cents a litre dearer.

Same with Gasoil supermarkets are the best places to fill up.

One thing we have learned is that if you are travelling on the Autoroutes there is generally a supermarket within approximately a kilometre of the exits, of course when you want one that will prove the exception LOL.
I would also add that not all supermarkets have GPL especially the smaller rural ones.

Hope this helps!

Crikey! If you need LPG just fill it up when you can! Why drive miles (kilometres) to save a cent or three when it probably costs more to drive there than it saves! Happiness is full fuel tanks and empty waste ones!

I have always found France more expensive. Hard to beat Asda at 64.7p
I've not filled abroad as my 48 litres will last 5 to 6 weeks without heating

All the Aires book has a section in the back listing LPG (GPL) stations throughout France. There aren't as many as you would think, and some are in small back street garages that you wouldn't generally drive past.
Best advice is fill up when you can, even if its a few cents dearer.
You know it makes sense...:winky:

I usually get in about 30L when I fill up my fixed LPG tank so saving a couple of pence a litre will only buy about 3 miles worth of diesel. I never make a detour to a cheaper outlet, its unnecessary as I always still have a several days use in the tank.
In France I have found this resource http://stations.gpl.online.fr/appli/index.php useful to find a LPG station that I'm passing, while avoiding the really expensive ones.
