A friend has offered to change the oil on my mh for me but I've no idea
which one
Mh is a Fiat based Golden Eagle (no handbook) 21' long though don't know if that makes a difference
21 years old this year.
Also I know lots of posts regarding weight/tyre pressure on this forum but as I am numerically dyslexic it's an alien language
Would be very grateful for advice on oil and idiot guide to tyre pressure
Many thanks

choose the brand name oil though as not all oils are the same quality. was talking to somebody recently who does their own servicing and has been using cheap oils. loads of issues with engine noise and the end result was a worn engine needing expensive and time consuming repairs. he had been using some chinese brand of probably recycled oil at half the price to purchase but at a high cost

Go to eurocarparts website enter your registration number then select engine oil. It will come up with what is suitable. You only need to know the viscosity etc then buy what make you like from where ever
http://www.eurocarparts.com/

Many thanks for this, appreciate the help.
Simple when you know what to do

Thanks for the advice.
I'll get a decent brand name, no point putting crud in the old girl.
I'm lucky, second owner and first took really good care of her.

best place to get the correct oil type and viscosity is from the car manufacturer which you can find it in the owners manual..

failing that auto shops have books that you can look up..

Hi Lucy. Not sure where you are in wonderful Kent, but if there is a Ford dealer nearby, you could pop in and ask what they recommend. They will probably tell you to use their own oil ( motor craft) but once you know the correct viscosity, you can use any good make.
I found THIS, it might tell you what you need for all servicing info if you click the vehicle tab and enter your reg number.

If it's the old banana tranny engine you can put pretty much anything in it, it will never go wrong:thumb::thumb:

Forget about it being a Golden Eagle - it is a Ford Transit.

I change the oil in mine (well, my man does) every 3000 miles, and with nearly 150000 miles on, it still hums along with no funny noises, never uses any between changes.

Only funny noise is when steering wheel in full lock
Will check if I can find out when last oil change was and
then get oil for Ford Transit :thumb:

What's the registration?

I don't put reg numbers on forums.. but it makes no difference, and why would it ?

The same 'selection' is suggested with the Make, Model and Year ..

frankly, I would never contemplate using some of the grades suggested..

The correct oil depends on ambient temperature.. hence the number of grades..

for example.. for operating ambient temperature of -30 to +40 c
my car uses 0w- 20 , or 0w-30 or 0w-40

other grades can be used in warmer climates .. for example 15w-40 ..

as as said earlier.. the very best place to get the correct grade for the operating temperatures for your vehicle is the manufacturer..

This is always in the drivers handbook of the base vehicle.. (not the van convertor) if that's lost.. any main dealer will advise.

Hi, Unless I've missed seeing this in the posts you have not said if its petrol or diesel? However in view of the age DO NOT put any fancy oil such as a synthetic oil the engine will not accept it and you could have disastrous results. Just put in a good quality known make oil. :thumb:

Usually the regular oil for normal use and service intervals comes up top of the list
