Google says this

Mass in service is defined under The European Directive 95/48/EC which includes 90% fuel and 75kg for driver and tools.

in other words .. kerb weight

Doh Jim another senior moment-----I never even thought to Google it----Thanks

I posted about this a few weeks ago - same query. No real definitive answer. Uprated from 3500 to 3650. New V5C arrived. Revenue weight now 3650 gross. Max. permissible mass (excl. m/c) (F.1) 3500. Mass in service (G) 3500. Confused .com

Sorry, though I answered.

'Mass in service' same as 'Mass in running order'.. ie in old money .. kerb weight

It's all here if you drill down into it

Sorry, ScotJimland. Found it after I posted  One more query though. How can the "Mass in Service" or kerb weight be the same as my old max plated weight, i.e. 3500? They couldn't have been the same before as would have had no payload.
