many many years! since I was a kid
there are a few popping up on the mainland too, like hayling island and the new one at weymouth. so long as they are not abused then other councils may copy the idea to boost tourism

Why is the thread title New parking?

This facility is a municipal caravan site, of which there are several examples around the UK, not a parking site. Why don't more councils open such caravan sites? Mainly because there are plenty of commercial caravan sites, they haven't the land and they haven't the cash.

The article referenced doesn't help, of course, by referring to parking when the sign clearly says it is a Motorhome Camping Area. The longer such confusion is allowed to exist, the longer any parking or camping areas for motorhomes (and not caravans) will take to come about.

The other factor as to why more councils don't provide facilities (either parking or camping) is that they simply are not aware of the demand. Why don't they do it? Because we have not made then aware of that demand.

So, everyone, look around the area where you live. Is there a car park (or other area) which is underused? If there is then get in touch with the council (or private landowner) and offer to work with them to create a motorhome parking and/or camping area. Can't do any harm can it?
