Satelite dish in windy weather (1 Viewer)

We're away in burnham on sea at the moment and its a tad windy down here!

The satelite dish has been left down, but wondered if it was safe to use and what kinda wind speed is too high?

It's a self seeking magic sat if at makes any difference.

If it's anything like here in Notts keep it down!

Two days ago on the aire at Wimeraux we all lowered our dishes overnight because of the gusts of wind.

Yeah been windy for a few days so left it down.

If it's really windy we take ours down during the day, but always put it down overnight when we go to bed. There was an 85 cm dish on the Dakota when we got it and if it gets windy we notice it affects the tv picture, so just bring it down when it gets like that.

It's not worth risking any damage and if push comes to shove we can always talk to each other when the tv is off

Ours has been up in some huge winds mainly by accident.. Wake up in the night with the van rockin n rollin all over the place ..
I have lowered it down, but to be honest, I wonder why I bother as it had survived gawd knows how long before I crawl out of bed to drop the thing..

However............

I well remember getting a PM from Scran asking if the dish on his van should work on the beach ( he was somewhere up on the north east coast )
Yes mate should work fine..

A while later I get another PM

Nope, no signal .. I will have to go and get it off the beach !!!

Apparently it had blown clean off !!

Wind it down and keep it down in windy conditions...I have seen some damaged sat dishes that have been left up in winds....
And IT'S not just the dish...just think of the size of your dish on the roof with the wind pressure on it ...then go up and look at your roof structure and think of your dish being rocked back and forth in the wind...bolted or glued to your roofoh:....

Now the continental footprint shs shrunk I see little point in having a large dish. My Camos flatsat is a real wind cheater and still able to match most 65s and some 85s.

Keep it down and not that this will help you today, have a back up internal digital aerial to stick to the windscreen. (Maiplin or avtex). Also helpful in uk when satellite blocked by trees! Obviously no use in Europe

We decided it was not worth the risk, taking account of everything.
It's a huge dish as the first owners spent a lot of time touring Europe. As you say of no great use to us now, but as its there.........

The wind has snapped a couple of poles on the driveaway awning so goodness knows what it would've done to the sat and more importantly the roof of the van

Ditto - never had an issue, no loss, no movement

Although to be honest not tested in force 9
