Hi

Does anyone know where I can find free CAD software for Vista
just a basic package.. ?

Hi Jim I can let you have auto cad if you can drive it (beyound me ) --about 4 gb though Can post it to you ?
not sure if it will work with vista ?
What is wrong with pad and pencil ?

nought wrong with pen and paper but it's easier with a cad package

I've got autocad somewhere ;but like you far too complicated , have got a digital note pad just the job for doing sketches plans etc and then saving then to the pc.

B a tad carefull offering Autocad on the forum. AFAIK, it's a licensed product so if you're gonna do it, a PM might be better.
No trying to be sanctimonious or anything, but a company I once worked for had an unlicensed copy and were fined £10,000 by AutoCad.

Have you checked out SketchUp from Google? I use it for room design / extensions basic palnning, and with a 3d capability it's excellent for demo-ing soultions. It is really easy to use, and there is a community of users with predesigned templates you can easily download and incorporate / amend too.

still trying this free one .. AllyCAD Professional CAD Design with advanced toolkits for Civil, Mechanical, Survey, Architectural, and Structural engineering and CAD design

will also try Google sketch up
