Default Ferry Crossings

Hi all, newbie here....

Any advice on booking and going over the ferry to mainland Europe.

Is it cheaper to book now, or does it get cheaper nearer the time, and very expensive as all the place are nearly used up?

What companies are most reasonable on cost?

First trip for us is likley to be from Harwich, Felixstowe or Dover

Can you really get a ferry to Sanatander? What would that cost??

We've found that Sea France, Dover - Calais, has offered the best deals in the past.

Yes you can get to Santander and Bilbao from Plymouth and Portsmouth - not cheap but then you don't have all that driving. Brittany Ferries, P & O, and Accion TM (I think they are) but they ditched us early this year because they 'had to' use the ferry somewhere else - quite cheap fares though if they had actually got us back home.

A trawl through the various web-sites will give you seasons and prices I should think.

Also motor homes are allowed on Chunnel - Folkstone to Calais

Get out there and travel - you know you want to.

John

PS Know nothing at all about the northern routes - sorry

Default Channel Tunnel Crossing

Agreed that motorhomes can use the Channel Tunnel BUT not those that have had petrol/LPG conversions done to the engine.

In order to use the Channel Tunnel, you have to be able to isolate and switch off every gas tank.

As for cheapness on the Channel Tunnel - if you are likely to cross several times in one year - consider 'the regular user' ticket scheme - it will save you a fortune!

Done a few checks and it looks like the following for my 7.5m house with 4 p.o.b.

Harwich to Holland £250 return

Plymouth Santander £800 return

Dover Calais £140 return

Does that sound right to you?

Oh, and the chunnel (Diesel not LPG) looks around £350

Default Ferries

Hi

I prefer the short sea crossings. I always book via Tesco and with P&O. If you look at the www.poferries.com website you can check the prices - as you already have done but.....

Let's say you want yo travel outbound on the 1700 Do-Ca. It might cost £62.50.

The 2100 might be £37.25.

I would book the 2100 and turn up early - and apologise for being early and say you don't mind going early etc etc

The P&O website says you can travel within 2 hours of your booking. I have never paid a penny extra at the port.

I think you will find that P & O no longer take Tesco vouchers on the English Channel crossings!

Default Ferry crossing

Yes - it is a bad sad really, but I have booked a load for next year and will just amend them as needed.

Go into Google, type in ( ferries.co.uk. ) You will have all the ferries you need to travel from England to main land Europe. Fill in the booking questionaires to find out how much you have to pay

NOPE. you can get all of those trips a lot cheaper. Booking on line is the cheapest form of cutting your expense. Or, am I wrong!!!
